Team 2443

I didn't think it would happen. This weekend Maui High School made history by being the first Maui team to qualify for the world finals in the FIRST robotics competition. The experience was something I will never forget. Our first and second days at the competition was a string full of bad luck: Trailer hitches fell off, controls were reversed, motor keys fell out, motors burned out. Whether it was us or the robot there was always something not working right. The team stuck it out and ended friday with a win which landed them 19th in the qualifying rounds. On Saturday we had two more matches before the finals and no one was really optimistic. We won one match but lost another putting us back in 22nd. Alliance selection took place and by some divine miracle we were put on a team with Mckinley and Moanalua, two very high ranked teams. together we competed in the final eight and pulled out a spot in the final two without no losses. Throughout the afternoon our team yelled before every match "Bankai" which means to go all out. We pulled out a victory in the finals and landed a spot in the world finals in Georgia. I couldnt believe we actually did it. All the hours we put into it wasn't for nothing and now we have a chance to make our state proud. I cannot thank Moanalua and Mckinley enough for their choice to have us ally with them. Being on the field and Driving that robot knowing that if i screwed up it would be a loss for us, it was unreal.

Other than the actual competition there are other things i would like to mention. Since putting them down in paragraph form would take too long, i've decided to just list them:

Feeling like im in high school on prom night

Last night was Prom and i gotta say i had alot more fun than i thought i would. Unfortunately i had to be there at 3 for one last court practice, after that we all took pictures and just hung out until we could get in. The court coronation went smoothly no one screwed up that bad and anything we did wrong was played off well. The dance wasn't all that bad either. There was an instance where i almost fell before we got on the dance floor but thats just normal clutziness. My partner rose was just great she did everything perfectly, all those time we screwed up during practice made her nervous so i knew if i screwed her up i wouldnt hear the end of it and she'd probably hate me >.< Everyone on the court was pretty much flawless and anthony of course being the class clown and king had to give everyone a good show. Shining Star and Cupid Shuffle which was our second dance went perfectly, even the drop spin which was scary during practice. Cupid shuffle was a great change from the normal ballroom dance, it was really the perfect way to show everyone what our class was all about. Making a fool of ourselves having fun and not caring what other people think. After the court dance and dinner it was really time to party. The dance floor was so crowded, once you got in there was really no way to get out. Unfortunately my parents wouldnt let me stay the night so after prom it was back home, no after party, no hanging out. Either way i had a great time with everyone and the whole experince is something i won't forget

alot has been going on...

I notice there are a string of days where i update this alot, and then all of a sudden i just forget about it. Sounds like a pretty weird cycle considering how much im online. but lately that hasnt really been the case. I can honestly say I've been busy. Busy with judo, robotics, ap classes, prom court >.< yeah i made it onto the fricken prom court out of dumb luck. Anyway learning ballroom dancing is really fun and i think i've gotten pretty good at it, i just hate having almost no time to myself on tuesdays. Judo season has started up again and that's been alot of fun some days and a major bitch most days. Then theres the classes i have for school, which arent too bad now that i think about it just need to apply myself more.

But then there's robotics...
we leave for competition the first week of spring break. I honestly can't wait, but there's alot of people on the team who shouldnt be going on the trip. I swear most of the people on the team barely did any work. It was always a handful of people who got the job done. What's worse is that most of them are seniors. So next year we are pretty much F****d.
