Maui Matsuri was tonight and that means it is the beginning of the obon season. The night before i saw Cheese at the mall and we made a pact to go to every obon festival this weekend. For those of you who dont know what an obon is it is a japanese ritual to honor the departed. It is both a religous thing as well as a cultural event because at these festivals there's always food and games and all kinds of fun. The major part is the obon dance. participants dress in hapi coats and dance to traditional japanese songs, it may not sound like much but trust me its really fun. if you are even in the area near an obon, dont think just go. you dont have to be buddhist to participate, nor is it pushing any religious ideologies. today was all about having fun and just doing things for the hell of it. Cannot wait till next year's Maui Matsuri ^^
